More about Random Acts of Kindness

Mark Groshek, MD | Pediatrics | Feb 15, 2012 | 2 Comments | Print

Today's suggestion for Random Acts of Kindness Week is to bring a treat to work, or school, or your neighbor.  And remember, it doesn't have to be a fatty or sweet thing.  You can bring fruit, or a veggie tray, nuts, or another healthy treat.

I already mentioned how good an act of kindness can be for your own health.  It turns out there is quite a bit of research about the health benefits of practicing kindness.  It can actually reduce stress, increase your sense of well-being, and actually extend your life span--and that is when you practice kindness. Think of all the benefits for the person to whom you are being kind, and for your kids, when they learn to practice kindness as well.

What kindness are you going to practice today?

Dear Mark, This is a great post. It's hard to think of a greater gift of kindness to a child, than to teach them that good nutrition is one of the cornerstones of good health.
Dear Keith, Thanks for the nice comment! We live in an exciting and changing world, and I do love that! But the simple things remains so wonderful as well, like just being kind, and like teaching kids about good nutrition. We have given several of my nieces and nephews a day of cooking with us as a Christmas present, and they get to invite their parents and grandparents to the meal they prepare. They are so proud of being able to prepare delicious and healthy dishes, and we get the joy of spending a day with them. Probably the best Christmas present I've ever given!
